The Conference in Brief…

Cindy Conaway/Bowling Green State University writes…
Out of all the conferences I have attended, Flow was by far the best experience. At the other conferences, I've shown up, read my paper, answered a few questions at the end, if I was lucky, then we all said goodbye and left the room. I spent the rest of the time with people I already knew from my University, or with friends in the city the conference was held. Although I brought contact cards I'd made, I never actually handed any out.
At Flow, I really felt like part of a panel, had two dinners out with people I had not met before, and actually spoke to people who had written books or articles I had read. Of course one of the best parts was getting to talk at length about TV, one of my favorite things to discuss, with people who find it equally important. I missed the first reception, but at the second one I stayed for about three hours, exchanged some cards, learned some potentially very useful information for my job hunt, and about other conferences I should attend, talked about TV and academia some more, and just had a blast.

Thanks to all of you who participated in the conference and to all of you who contributed to this, our first “special issue.” This issue is devoted to discussion of the conference: what worked, what didn't, and what we'd like to see happen next time. It also provides a forum for conversations begun at the conference to continue and for people to develop ideas that they began to consider in roundtables at the conference. We hope you enjoy and join some of these conversations.
And, of course, a big thank you to all of you who keep tuning in see what's on Flow.
Finally, as always… Please feel free to comment.
